Comus Thumbs Free TGP and TTT Setup Wed Sep 29, 2004 7:10 pm |

How to setup Comus Thumbs Free TGP Script with TTT.
What is Comus Thumbs?
Comus is made to enhance your TTT script, not replace it.
Comus provides the link and content management control.
It comes standard with productivity boosting technology to increase your clicks, which is why so many people rave about it.
For those of you who dont know, nobody has more features and more development into a TGP automation script than Comus.
It's built on a philosophy of TOTAL CONTROL, which is very different to most other TGP scripts out there, they try to be more user friendly by providing less options, we take a different approach, we want you to be more powerful. That makes Comus a complex script, but it is also the most documented and freely supported and clearly the industry leader in innovation.
Anyway, some of the things you can do which I'll explain here.
-Control skim ratios on a per location basis.
-Control skim ratios on a per category basis.
-Modify skim ratios for proxy (possible hitbot) traffic.
-Track clicks for every single position on your site.
-Track clicks by category.
These are the default Comus trade sript prefix values for TTT PHP and TTT C++, which enable the features discussed below
Text links prefix setting for TTT/PHP (#51 below)
| Code: | | /ttt-out.php?pct=%lshave%&link=TXT%group%&url= |
Thumb links prefix setting for TTT/PHP (#58 below)
| Code: | | /ttt-out.php?pct=%tshave%&link=THM%group%&url= |
Text links prefix setting for TTT/C++ (#51 below)
| Code: | | /cgi-bin/ttt-out?pct=%lshave%&link=TXT%group%&url= |
Thumb links prefix setting for TTT/C++ (#58 below)
| Code: | | /cgi-bin/ttt-out?pct=%tshave%&link=THM%group%&url= |
Example of where these values go:
How to control Skim ratios on a per category basis.
You might want to do this, if you have galleries in rotation, say hosted galleries, and you want to skim your own galleries less than other peoples galleries. Or maybe you are selling gallery spots, and you want your partner submitters to be in their own category which skim less, or maybe you have public submitters and you decide to skim their galleries more than everyone else.
To control skim ratios on a per category basis you would go into the [Categories] section and set the skim ratios for each category, you can control for textlinks and thumblinks individually. %lshave% is for text links, and %tshave% is for thumb links.
How to control Skim ratios for proxy traffic.
Some people like to deflect traffic for proxy (possible hitbot traffic) to somewhere it cant do any harm, Comus can change the ratios and links for proxy traffic.
How to control first clicks with Comus.
Comus can override the standard firstclicks options of most trade scripts, and can provide these options to scripts that dont have the abilty. You can set between 1 and 10 clicks to go to galleries before trades. Comus does this by forcing the skim ratio to 100 if the clicks are less than your desired quota. (example in image above)
How to control skim ratio on a per location basis.
This allows you to do stuff like, have your hall of fame skim at less than todays new galleries. Or you can have a partner location near the top that rotates galleries, but skims at 90% to glaleries.
All you need to do is add the skim ratio to your comus layout macros. For example the default layout macro for comus is
Which means show the first thumb for today and select from all categories, you can extend this with skim information like this,
| Code: | | {{#85#all-thumb-1}} |
Which means to also skim for this location at 85%. This also works for text links
Because Comus allows you to place a thumb macro for every single spot on your site, you can therefore control the skim ratios for every single spot on your site.
Most people use this to have skim ratios that decrease as the surfers progress down the page.
How to track skim ratio by category.
Comus extends your tracking ability by allowing you to embed variables into the link settings, the most common use of this is the addition of the %group% variable. For example with TTT trade script, we add &link=TXT%group%.
%group% is a special purpose variable, which by default reports the category of the thumb, it has some extra abilities which I'll explain below. This will embed the galleries' category into your link tracking, and in this case we have also added TXT. You will see the Amateur Text links show up as TXTAmateur.
How to track clicks for every single position on your site.
This might be useful if you have sold gallery spots on your site, and you want to track how many clicks have gone from it. We achieve this by extending the default layout macro again with a GROUP code.
In the example above we showed how to control skim ratios on a per location basis. Well we can take this one step further with the group code. It works like this, the thumb layout macro...
| Code: | | {{GROUP#85#all-thumb-1}} |
Would automatically create a TTT link that looked like this...
| Code: | | /ttt-out.php?pct=85&link=THMGROUP&url= |
%group% is autmatically replaced by the word GROUP which was placed within the macro.
Troubleshooting
You can see the exact links in use on your site by putting it into [Edit mode]. This mode allows you, as the systems admin to click on any image or link on a Comus site, and then examine the links being created by Comus, and also allows you to edit anything attached to that link.
Check this link in the Comus manual to get more info on the [Edit mode] Make sure to click on NEXT>>> to see the tour.

Examples: The edit mode link will bring up your site, and allow you to edit all the links and thumbs on your site by viewing them and clicking them.
